Snapshot of My Weekend

On Friday night the beau and I were invited to the holiday party of a web startup. To my delight, they had a photo booth with props galore! I was also delighted because my hair looked extra-fabulous thanks to Drybar, a blow out bar on Fillmore. At the end of the night, as I was walking home, people on the street kept wishing me a happy birthday… I was confused until I realized I had left the party with that crown still on! Oops!

Yesterday I got some holiday shopping done, and saw the city filled with Santas for Santacon! Today has been pretty lazy, but I did make some Migas ala Smitten Kitchen. Delicious! Hope you all had a great weekend as well!

Boot Season!

I’m still into short boots. But now that it’s winter, I’m also into tall boots, well, pretty much any kind of boot. And although it’s a balmy, 75 degree December day over here in Berkeley, I still have boots on the brain.

The ‘chelsea’ style, with a stretch panel at either ankle, is particularly appealing to me lately.

These lovelies are on sale at Madewell right now:

And these Chelsea Riding Boots by Frye are also amazing:

Lovely Things

Hello Monday, goodbye long weekend. I hope everyone had an amazing break.

Thanksgiving was nice, and Saturday was especially nice- I visited Harbin Hot Springs with some friends. It felt great to soak/relax/detox/get my lymph moving. Harbin’s system of pools includes warm, hot, and cold, and it felt just right to soak for a long while in the warm, then alternate between hot and cold for a few minutes at a time. The warm pool is kept right at body temperature and, while I floated there, I thought – this must be what it feels like in the womb… I highly recommend a visit. Next I want to try Wilbur Hot Springs; how dreamy does this place look?

Other lovely things on my mind:

I tried out this Diptyque perfume the other day and can’t stop thinking about how nice it smells… I might have to get it for a special ‘treat yo self’ holiday prize.

This photo from the latest The Selby feature- the home of publisher Angelika Taschen:

I just love the idea of a huge glossy photo hanging over a simple bed. Happy Monday, friends!

Dinner at Cyrus

To celebrate one year of dating, my super-sweet beau took me to dinner last night at Cyrus. Just off the main square in the adorable town of Healdsburg, Cyrus is a two-Michelin-starred restaurant offering a tasting menu of 5 or 8 courses, with plenty of additional treats along the way. As far as I can remember, here is what we ate (bear with me, it’s a long list):

mango pixie stick, gougere, grape bubble, grapefruit and campari jello, shiitake and umi broth, squash puree with pickled mushrooms and rice puffs, ginger bone marrow custard, foie gras torchon with quince glass and jam, john dory with braised romaine and yuzu butter, avocado lime ice pop, crispy chicken thigh with truffled risotto, celery, parmesan froth, fresh white truffles shaved table-side, warm bananas with hazelnut and milk chocolate, passionfruit marshmallow, coconut macaron with dulce de leche filling

this morning- sugary pastry filled with chocolate
this afternoon- caramel pop

Other tidbits: The caviar and champagne cart was wheeled by our table upon sitting down, but we opted to skip those treats. Our waiter brought by an enormous white truffle in a wooden box for us to smell. In an unusual move, much to my dining companion’s delight, we were seated next to each other on the booth side of the table. The two gentlemen at the table next to ours ordered two bottles of what must have been CRAZY expensive wine. The sommelier went through an incredible ritual pouring the wine, asked their permission to taste it, and presented them the corks in a gilded box. What an awesome dining experience.

Up next on the list of special dinners: Frances.

Letterpress, posters, and Etsy, Oh My!

This past Friday was a work holiday (thank you, veterans!) so I took the opportunity to rent some time on the printing press and whip up some holiday goodies. Most importantly, I made my holiday cards. They are super adorable and I would post a picture *but* then they won’t be a surprise when certain persons get them in the mail. My other project on the press this week was a poster… which you can now purchase… in my Etsy shop! Check out the new widget on my sidebar over there ——->

Here’s a peek at the poster:
