I hope everyone is excited for the long weekend ahead. It’s the end of summer, last chance to wear white, and the start of the NFL season (thank you, Wikipedia). I’m especially excited to go camping on Sunday night- I’ve been promised swimming, frisbee, campfires, star gazing and merry making. And all of this on a peninsula in the Sacramento River Delta.
Perhaps even more exciting, though, is the fancy dinner planned for Saturday night. I’ve been wanting to go to Saison ever since it opened. It’s a prix fixe, 8 course tasting menu in a converted carriage house in the Mission District. Chef Josh Skenes creates his meals using local ingredients, many of which he finds himself while foraging, such as nasturtiums from a ‘secret location’ near Golden Gate park, or wild fennel or sorrel flowers. I’ll be sure to report back next week.
